Any mental or substance disorder of person, status

Any mental or substance disorder refers to whether or not, in a specified period of time, the person was classified as meeting the criteria for any of the following disorders: major depressive episode, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, alcohol dependence, alcohol abuse, cannabis dependence, cannabis abuse, other drug dependence, or other drug abuse. Whether or not the person met the criteria was determined using a modified World Health Organization Composite International Diagnostic Interview (WHO-CIDI). Mental conditions or problems were identified through a set of questions pertaining to the feelings, the symptoms, severity, the intensity and the impact relative to each of the disorders listed.

Person refers to an individual and is the unit of analysis for most social statistics programs.
