Elapsed time from case initiation to first disposition refers to the amount of time between the commencement of civil court proceedings to the date of the first disposition. A disposition is a court event that disposes part or all of the civil case (e.g., settlement, consent judgment and judgment).

Civil court case refers to a court case dealing with civil or private matters; distinct from criminal court.
