Order authority refers to the authority that emits an order, usually describing the current quantum of regular support payments for the spouse and/or children. Orders for support or maintenance may be included in divorces, and be ordered pursuant to the Divorce Act, or they may result from orders/agreements made pursuant to provincial or territorial legislation.

Maintenance enforcement case refers to a case that is registered involving one payer and one recipient and the financial obligations that are being monitored/enforced by the program (MEP). The program processes payments, monitors and enforces cases in order to ensure that recipients receive their payments of child and spousal support.
