Average daily per capita residential water use refers to the total potable water used by the residential sector in a specified period divided by the number of days in that period, divided by the number of persons in the population served. Figures represent the results for plants that reported the percentage of potable water used by the residential sector.

Population served refers to the persons served by the facility during a specified period. In the context of the Survey of Drinking Water Plants, facility is a drinking water plant.
