Functional difficulty refers to difficulties with performing operations important to everyday life. Examples of functional difficulties include seeing, hearing, walking, self-care, communication, learning, remembering, concentrating, accepting change, controlling behaviour, or making friends, as well as issues with anxiety or depression.

Person refers to an individual and is the unit of analysis for most social statistics programs.
