Ocean water layers are defined by depth from the ocean surface. All waters between the exclusive economic zone outer boundary and the 2021 Census of Population coastline are included.

Oceanic geographic area refers to areas whose boundaries are specifically delimited in accordance with well-defined concepts and which, in total, cover the entire ocean area within the outer boundary of exclusive economic zone of Canada.
