Biennial Industrial Water Survey (IWS)

Water recirculation of location, volume

Water recirculation refers to the amount of recirculated water used in a given period of time. Recirculated water refers to water used at least twice within the location. It is water that leaves a particular subsystem and re-enters it or is used in another subsystem. It does not include water that circulates many times within the same subsystem (i.e., closed loop systems).

Location refers to the lowest level of the Business Register statistical hierarchy. The location, as a statistical unit, is defined as a production unit at a single geographical location at which or from which economic activity is conducted and for which, at a minimum, employment data are available.

The data for this variable are reported using the following measurements:

  • Cubic metres
