Farming sector status of farm family, status

Farming sector status refers to whether the farm is incorporated or not. An unincorporated sector consists of individual taxfilers who report positive gross farm income or non-zero net farm income on their Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) T1 General, Income Tax and Benefit Return. Includes farm families involved in a single unincorporated farm with gross operating revenues of $10,000 or more.

Farm family refers to a family where at least one person is responsible for the management decisions in operating an agricultural operation. Can be owners, tenants or hired managers of the agricultural operation, including those responsible for management decisions pertinent to particular aspects of the farm - planting, harvesting, raising animals, marketing and sales, and making capital purchases and other financial decisions.
