Typology group of farm family, category

Typology group refers to categories of farm based on age of operator, dependence on farm revenues and income level.

Farm family refers to a family where at least one person is responsible for the management decisions in operating an agricultural operation. Can be owners, tenants or hired managers of the agricultural operation, including those responsible for management decisions pertinent to particular aspects of the farm - planting, harvesting, raising animals, marketing and sales, and making capital purchases and other financial decisions.

The data for this variable are reported using the following classifications and/or lists:
