Residential facility for victims of abuse refers to an establishment that provides housing to individuals who have experienced abuse, regardless of length of stay (days, months, or years). Includes, but is not limited to, shelters for victims of abuse, transition homes, interim housing, and safe home networks. The primary mandate of the facility must be to provide residential services to victims of abuse, as opposed to facilities primarily mandated to provide housing services to individuals, who may or may not have experienced abused (e.g. homeless shelters, emergency shelters).

Person refers to an individual and is the unit of analysis for most social statistics programs.
