Low-income gap ratio refers to the difference between the low-income measure and the adjusted census family income of the individual in low income, expressed as a percentage of the low-income measure. For those with negative income, the gap ratio is set to 100%.

Person refers to an individual and is the unit of analysis for most social statistics programs.
