Field of study refers to the discipline or area of learning or training associated with a particular course or program of study.

In the 2011 National Household Survey, 'Field of study' is referred to as 'Major field of study'.

Person refers to an individual and is the unit of analysis for most social statistics programs.

The data for this variable are reported using the following classifications and/or lists:

• Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Canada 2011
• Variant of CIP 2011 - Primary groupings
• Variant of CIP 2011 - STEM groupings
